Top 5 Free Camping Spots in Arizona

If you are a camping enthusiast and happen to be in Colorado then my friend you are in luck. With absolutely stunning landscapes and diverse camping options, Colorado offers everything you need to have an amazing night under the stars. Here are the 5 most beautiful places to go camping and enjoy your weekend.

1. Chatfield State Park

Chatfield State Park is located 30 minutes south of Denver. It offers breathtaking mountain and lake views. There are many fun activities to keep you busy, including fishing, hiking, boating, and a lot more. There are 197 campsites and 10 group sites that you can reserve through Colorado Park’s website. Yes, you can do tent camping though it is not suggested in summer because there is no shade and the sun hits the ground directly. So RV is a better camping option here. You’ll find toilets and showers around you with running water and electricity.

2. Rocky Mountain National Park

If you are a mountain person, Rocky Mountain is the place you are looking for. To experience the true wilderness there’s also an option for backcountry camping though you need a permit for that. There are a total of 5 campgrounds and 1 of them doesn’t require any reservations. You can do tent camping and also bring your RV but make sure which campsites have RV hookups. Some of the campgrounds have dump stations and running water and some don’t. Make sure to do your research to find a suitable campsite.

3. White River National Forest

White River is one of the most popular National Forests in the US. So you can only imagine how beautiful the place is. You’ll get some breathtaking views from mountain tops during the snow. Also, there are 12 ski resorts and 8 wilderness areas. RV camping is preferable here though you can do tent camping in some campgrounds. Beware of bears while camping. Sometimes black bears are to be seen in the area.

4. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

When it comes to National Parks this one is pretty small and beautiful. So you can visit all the places in a day and hike through the edge of the canyon. There are two campgrounds on each rim of the canyon, one on the north and the other on the south. There’s also a campground at the bottom of the canyon. Some of the campgrounds remain closed during the off-season so make sure to check before going. Also don’t forget to put anything scented inside lockers because of bears.

5. Great Sand Dunes National Park

Who doesn’t love a night sky full of stars? Great Sand Dunes offers just that with amazing desert views. The only thing you’ll be thinking about here is what to do first. It has campgrounds for tent and RV camping with full hookups, toilets, and running water. You don’t need a reservation here, just an entrance pass that you can purchase early.
