1. Sequoia National Park

If you want to walk between the largest trees in the world and sleep while watching the Milky Way twinkle in the sky then Sequoia National Park is waiting for you with full of adventure and thrill. There are total 14 campgrounds in total and it is recommended to book a reservation as early as possible. Both RV and tent camping are allowed though RV should be less than 22 feet. There’s a free shuttle connecting all the attractions inside the park. Also, be aware of bears and store your food in the locker box provided with your campsite.

2. Yosemite National Park

Yosemite is one of the most magnificent spectacles in America if not Earth. It is filled with granite monoliths, huge sequoias, jaw-dropping waterfalls, and miles of untouched wilderness. The park has 13 campgrounds and requires a reservation in advance to get a campsite. Many sites require a reservation even a year earlier because of its unreal popularity. There is just a lot to explore in Yosemite and you will never run out of things to do. There are options for both tent and RV camping. Also, keep in mind that you should store your food in lockers because black bears are seen roaming around the park.

3. Joshua Tree National Park

In Joshua Tree National Park you can sleep under the beautiful sky with thousands of stars and wake up watching the mesmerizing desert sunrise. The heart-warming desert with hundreds of thousands of Joshua trees will never make you feel alone. There are 8 campgrounds with over 500 campsites. Most of the campgrounds are reservation only and some are first come first serve. There are no RV hookups in most of the campgrounds. Most are primitive campgrounds with no toilets and no running water. 

4. Emerald Bay State Park

Emerald Bay State Park in Lake Tahoe is all about stunning landscapes and thrilling adventure. The lake from above the forest looks like just a piece of heaven on earth. There are 2 distinct sections, Upper Eagle and Lower Eagle Point Campground. Lower Eagle is close to the lake and Upper Eagle is more immersed into the forest. Both have solid hookups with running water, a shower, bear lockers, and a toilet.  There are a lot of fun activities that you can do here including hiking down the Vikingsholm trail and scuba diving into the lake. And don’t forget to store your food in the locker provided with your campsites.

5. El Capitan State Beach

With a beautiful sandy beach, rocky coastline, and stands of sycamore and oak, El Capitan Beach is the perfect destination for swimming, surfing, picnicking, and camping. More than 100 campsites are suitable for tent and RV camping. Unfortunately, RV hookups are not available on site. Restrooms, toilets, and coin-operated showers are available throughout the campsites. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance, so it is recommended to book your reservation as early as possible.
